Forge alternate worlds that deepen players' lives! We're a game development studio based in Los Angeles, dedicated to the idea that online games can deliver deeper, more meaningful experiences.
Expectations and Responsibilities:
As a Backend Engineer on the Meta team, you will develop and maintain online services and tools that support our social engine features, mainly in Rust and TypeScript.
We orchestrate our allocations with Kubernetes, with Argocd, Vault, and Linkerd. If your interests lean toward learning more about game code, you can dive into the Unreal C++ source and learn the dark arts.
You will collaborate with a cross-functional team, including Game and Backend Engineers, Game Designers, and UI Artists to co-own and design engineering solutions for a broad range of product goals pertaining to shared player experiences in Palia.
What We're Looking For:
- You have experience developing multiple scalable backend services in reasonably complex system environments. You have a background in writing web services, designing REST APIs, and designing data models.
- You are competent with a modern cloud infrastructure including AWS, docker, kubernetes, service meshes, etc. You are conversant in the cross-cutting concerns involved with orchestrating services.
- You desire to own value creation and work closely with Product disciplines. You’ve developed the product sense and judgment to buy into a team goal, discern value, and contribute to planning and prioritization.
- You’re part of a team. You value collaborating on code and sharing knowledge. You understand a high functioning team will always achieve more than a heroic individual. Especially if remote, you proactively communicate needs and opportunities.
Nice to Have:
- Depth of operational experience. You have experience with infrastructure as code, observability, and the cloud native ecosystem.
- Service integrations with mobile or game console platforms.
- Security and regulatory compliance.
- Database expertise with a wide range of technologies. Cassandra/Scylla or other wide-column stores are a big plus.
- Enthusiasm for online games. It helps to put yourselves in the shoes of the player.
Salary Information:
The Los Angeles base salary range for this full-time position is $150,000 - $220,000 annually. Base salary will be determined by role, level, and location. The range listed for each job is the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the positions across S6-approved states. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors. Please discuss your specific salary expectations for your preferred location during our interview process.
Compensation details reflect only the base salary, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits such as 401k matching.

- Aligned to core Pacific Coast hours (10:00am - 4:00pm PT)
